Students and staff from the graduate school Creative Approaches to Public Space (CAPS) at Rennes 2 University took part in the 5th edition of the Erasmus Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) “Public Arts Garage – Hidden Cities”, hosted by University College Cork (Ireland). The programme brought together Master’s and PhD students from across Europe to explore artistic and transdisciplinary approaches to urban transformation.

“Hidden Cities: Artistic Methodologies & Practices to Explore Urban Transformation” is an Erasmus BIP for advanced MA and PhD students in the Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences, building on the collaborative pedagogical model of the Public Arts Garage, developed at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar in collaboration with the CAPS international partner network. Previous editions were held in Weimar, Montréal, Barcelona and Rennes, with the 2025 edition welcoming new partners from the UNIC European University Alliance.

The programme combined an online component (weekly sessions from October to December 2025) with an intensive in-person week in Cork (1–5 December 2025). During six online sessions, students attended lectures and interactive talks in English delivered by an international and interdisciplinary teaching team from the CAPS and UNIC networks. These sessions provided the theoretical and methodological grounding necessary for the in-person workshops in Cork.

During the week in Cork, participants engaged in workshops on artistic research, urban narratives and participatory practices, addressing topics such as creative city-making, speculative design and inclusivity in art. The programme also included visits to local art exhibitions, notably Jools Gilson’s The Knitting Map, and guided cultural and historical walks around the city.
